Historical Town and Home to Purdue University Northwest

Hammond has the highest population in Lake County with approximately 80,000 residents. It is home to Purdue’s Northwest campus with a current enrollment of over 10,000 students. In 2006, Hammond began the College Bound Scholarship Program, making it the first city in the Country to invest public dollars into its high school graduates’ futures. Another program is the Hammond Homebound Program, which provides down payment assistance to qualifying buyers purchasing a home in Hammond.

Our favorite spots: For a great craft beer, stop by Byway Brewing, conveniently located right off 80/94 at Kennedy. If you’re in the mood for Mexican cuisine, try El Taco Real. In business for nearly 45 years and well known in the community, you can’t pass by without stopping for a delicious, authentic meal!
